Many layers of filo dough, separated with melted butter and vegetable oil, are laid in the pan to get Baklava (Baklawa). A layer of chopped nuts usually walnuts or pistachios, we can also use hazelnuts and place it on top, then more layers of filo. So to day we will show you how to make Baklava.
Preparation of the syrup
Pour the sugar, water and lemon juice in a saucepan. Melt over low heat and cook, watching, until the mixture becomes the consistency of a syrup. Let the syrup cool completely before pouring it on the Baklavas.
Preparation of the filling
Grill the dried fruits in the oven. Chop them roughly. Add icing sugar and orange blossom water and mix well.
Cooking Baklava steps
Melt and Skim. Pour it into a bowl, taking care not to let the white granular part (the whey) that burns when cooking.
Preheat the oven to 180 ° C.
Butter an oven dish (preferably iron). Spread out a first sheet of filo. Butter it with a brush. Cover with a second sheet, butch it in its turn and continue until the half-packet of filo dough is used up.
Spread the dough with the dried fruits. Cover as before with the rest of the filo pastry. With a very good knife, cut the baklavas into squares or lozenges.
Bake, cook for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from the oven as soon as the whole surface is golden brown.
